General machinery is the most widely used and fundamental type of mechanical equipment in the industrial system. It serves as a crucial link connecting raw material processing, intermediate product manufacturing, and final product assembly. It is applied in various sectors of the national economy such as petrochemicals, coal chemical industries, oil and gas development and transportation, power, metallurgy, coal, fire protection engineering, etc., as well as in national infrastructure construction and national defense construction. It supports the normal operation of the national economy.

In the general equipment manufacturing industry, there are 9 sub-industries belonging to the mechanical industry, namely: boiler and prime mover equipment manufacturing, metal processing machinery manufacturing, material handling equipment manufacturing, pump, valve, compressor and similar machinery manufacturing, bearings, gears and transmission components manufacturing, drying ovens, fans, packaging and other equipment manufacturing, cultural and office machinery manufacturing, general component manufacturing, and other general equipment manufacturing.
The upstream of the general machinery industry mainly includes raw material suppliers such as steel, non-ferrous metals, plastics, rubber, and composite materials, as well as component suppliers such as batteries, motors, bearings, gears, and electronic components; the midstream of the industry consists of general machinery manufacturing enterprises, which are responsible for designing, processing, and assembling the raw materials and components from the upstream to produce various general mechanical equipment; the downstream of the industry is the application market, where general machinery products are widely used in various sectors of the national economy such as petrochemicals, coal chemical industries, oil and gas development and gathering, power, metallurgy, coal, and in national infrastructure construction and national defense construction.
